Randy Jackson

Welding Teacher

I was a Dryden student & Welding student at TST Boces 1982/83 1983/84. I started a Welding business (Jackson’s Welding LLC.) in 1982 that continued open for many years until 2012. I taught at Cortland Boces as a long term sub for a full school year in 1986.  I Started teaching Adult Ed classes in Ithaca and Cortland Boces in 1985, which I still currently teach. I was also a sub for both programs until I took over full time here at TST BOCES. The whole time I did Adult Classes I also did contract Instruction for many businesses as well as had many intern opportunities for area Trade schools at my shop. I participate in the JCATS early training for 8th graders. I also teach at the area youth Correction Facilities. At this time I am enjoying sharing an awesome career that can be the students vehicle to a well rewarded career with a lot of opportunities for a happy life of work, hobby, or side-hustle. For Hobbies I like to camp and ride motorcycles with my two kids and enjoy simple life qualities.

2018 Newfield Alumni

“I was in Mr. Jackson’s Welding class and Mr. Kinney’s Heavy Equipment class at the Career and Tech Center. Over the course of the 2 years, there was not a single moment that was boring nor did I think it was a waste of time. The knowledge I received from both teachers has helped me tremendously. I pursued my education in welding during my second year at BOCES, and I furthered it by attending Pennsylvania College of Technology. I use the knowledge I learned from both classes everyday, and I am beyond thankful that I decided to attend BOCES. I would recommend any program to anyone.”

Diamond Sill
Current Newfield Student

As a sophomore at Newfield High School, I was stuck thinking about what I wanted to do for a career. My grandfather suggested welding because there are fewer females in this field, and he believed it was a good path for me. As soon as I visited the Welding program with the teacher, Mr. Jackson, I couldn’t wait to sign up!

Within the first five months of the Welding program, I learned gas welding, twist plates, bent plates, and puddling with filler metal. You will learn additional skills, not only skills on welds, but professional skills in life with meeting new people from other schools and forming a network with the extended community. Now that I have started my career plans, my goal is to become an underwater welder. TST BOCES and the Welding program with Mr. Jackson will help me get there.
